JEFF ROBL If you stayed home because of the ice and cold weather I can't say that I blame you, but it was one of the best opening weekends for walleyes I can remember. We caught a lot of fish! Not many campers this weekend other then my campsite saw one other group. Woke up sat. morn. to a cold north wind was worried about the bite. Picked up Dan, Rick and Scott at Murrays, started in river beds in 14-18'casting 1/8 jigs ,slow retrieve, extra large fatheads started catching fish right away. We fished bends and holes all day and caught a lot of fish, we released bigger females the biggest 21". We caught some nice perch to round out the catch. Sunday brought bright sunny skies and warmer weather,(50's this year feels like a heat wave) as the day progressed. Had the pleasure of having the same fisherman in the morning. The fishing was again fantastic lot of nice walleyes, are biggest Sunday was 22" (released). We had a couple pike, perch and nice crappies. I never mind getting out fished by my customers, I did this morning. Great fishing with you guys, next year though you might get cane poles. Picked up son and friends in the afternoon, same walleye bite was on along with some more nice crappies and a lone smallmouth. It was a great weekend and good way to start the season, nice to hear the loons again. Ice: Late in the day we could drive almost to fishermans ( from murrays) before we hit ice. It will all be gone in the next couple days. Bobber Down Guide Service |
