| FISHING REPORT 5/7/14 12:25 AM CST Conditions: Sunny The fishing so far this season has been incredibly good. We caught fish in the bed of the channels in 14-18'. We selected fish in the 13-16" size range and released a lot of 17-18" fish, a couple nice perch and a decent pike were also in the afternoons catch. Elliot's birthday present to Ellen was a fishing trip she had a great time and caught the biggest fish a 20" walleye. Son Jack came to help probe some spots for active fish before our afternoon trip. You can fish spots faster with two people I appreciate his capable help. We cast 1/8 jigs with extra large flatheads, a slow retrieve, we used mostly orange today. We have also been catching fish on deadsticks with a 1/4 oz. jig but the action was good today so we didn't have them out long. Lindy sinkers with a barrel swivel and short snell with floating jighead or wolf river rigs would also work in the current. This is a good way to fish if you're by yourself and want to watch a couple more lines. I thought the fish we were keeping were mostly males but three were females already spawned out. I think the spawning will largely be over in the next couple nights. Enjoy the fishing it has been terrific. [This post was last edited on 5/7/14 at 12:28 AM] |
