I wanted to follow up with an update. First off, Joey and I cannot thank you enough for a great day on Friday fishing and for the invaluable tips for fishing these waters! We learned a ton! What a great experience! Joey ended up netting two hog smallies on Saturday and laying into 3 more on Sunday morning (although we did not net any on Sunday). The last 4 hogs (1 late Saturday and 3 Sunday) were all at the "V" structure by long island. All 5 hogs were on deadsticks! The most action was on the north side of the V even with the end of the structure away from the island about 10 feet north. Hit after hit there, all smallies! As far as not netting 3, one got off under the boat, one got into the tree and snapped the line and one was set marginally and snuck off. Oh well, that happens!

All in all, we had a ton of action both days and landed 35 - 40 fish total. Not quite as productive as with you, but for us, those are great numbers. Attached are the two hogs from Saturday. I will send more later. We do plan on making this an annual trip and will start with you again on the first day if that is OK with you. We really enjoyed both your guiding skills and your hospitality. We both feel like we now have a friend up at the Flowage.

"I recently enjoyed a day of fishing with Jeff on the Turtle Flambeau Flowage. This is my first time ever using a guide service on any body of water, but I can't imagine anyone doing a better job than Jeff. His knowledge of the Flowage was certainly second to none. I never had a shore lunch and Jeff supplied a wonderful meal, far exceeding ANY expectation I may have had. I strongly recommend to anyone considering fishing the Turtle Flambeau Flowage to use Jeff as a guide for a wonderful day on the water."

"I was very fortunate to be one of the writers Jerry made reference too, though I did not have a chance to fish with Jerry, I enjoyed everything Mercer had to offer.

I did fish with Jeff Robl from Bobber Down Guide Service on our first day of fishing excurisions and had a great day. We had our limit of Walleyes in no time and started to land perch and smallies all over the flowage. It was strange too cause the 25mph winds were not helping the boat stay put or allow for any feel while jigging.

Most fish came in 3-6fow on a 1/16 jig and 1/2 crawler under a slip bobber. A few fish were caught jigging, but again tough to feel the bite.

I had a fantastic time in Mercer and I plan on coming back up to fish with Jeff Robl in September, a full day trip with a shore lunch, can't go wrong!"

"I brought my two sons to power fish for one day (Saturday - 5/12) We got on the water and fishing by 9:30 am. We hooked up with Jeff Robl - Bobber Down Guide Service (715-776-0140). We moved around to find fish and eventually got our limit but it took awhile. It seemed the norm for most fishing on Saturday, a lot of fisherman were moving to and from. We were catching fish all day - smallies, northerns and our target fish (walleye). Size range from 13" to 18" we kept. We caught a number of smaller ones towards sunset. We stopped for a shore lunch which was awesome! If you are looking to have someone take you out, you will not be disappointed with Jeff Robl. Big Smile"

My wife and I have been fishing the Mercer/Turtle Flambeau flowage for the past 3 years.  We come up every year to visit friends and fish.  On my friends advice, we hired Jeff for an all day / shore lunch guided trip.  At first I wasn't sure, but hindsight being what it is, I don't think we will be fishing the flowage without Jeff's services anymore.  The flowage is a dangerous place for boats but with Jeff's 30+ years of experience on these waters, he navigates it as surely as walking through his kitchen.  And his kitchen it is.  His shore lunch cooked on one of the many camping islands was simply amazing.  Pan fired walleye, potatoes and beans better than any old school Wisconsin supper club.

As for the fishing?  Jeff works harder than anyone to make sure you get fish.  He was on the water hours before we got to the lake, marking out spots and coming up with a plan of action.  We went from one spot to the next, fishing them out and then moving on.  How he finds all these humps and boulder piles in the middle of thousands of acres of water is beyond me, but find them he did, and the fish came with them.  We caught smallmouth at nearly every stop we made and there is nothing like a Turtle Flambeau smallmouth.  They make fish taken elsewhere look anorexic.  By the end of the day, we had a great catch of keeper walleye and even some northern pike after Jeff humored my request to fish them.  Jeff is a great guide, and great down-to-earth guy.  Highly recommended.

hanks again for a wonderful fishing trip on the flowage. We all caught a lot of fish and Jimmy's big walleye at the end was really special! You cook a mean shore lunch. You are truly a great guide, hard worker and a really nice guy. I highly recommend your services to anyone interested in a fun, fish filled day on Flowage. I feel we have found a friend and look forward to having you guide us on our annual fishing trip for years to come. Thank you!"

"I have fished with [Jeff Robl] on the Turtle Flambeau Flowage for the past five years. His ability to get on fish is uncanny and his knowledge of the Flowage and special "Honey Holes" is unmatched."
